I have been waiting to hear the results from the Final Cut meeting last night. I haven't heard anyone celebrating the release of FC Server, or any other cool FC-related anything.

Does anyone know what ever came of this "secret announcement?"

Since no examples were given, I have to say: USE COMIC SANS FOR EVERYTHING.

Seriously, each document/logo/presentation needs deep consideration of the audience, corporate branding, etc., to choose a font. This usually isn't a "throw a dart and choose a font" type of thing...

i get the same thing to. it usually happens when i play the app words with friends. If the app runs ads and you go to the home screen sometimes you get the ad below the status bar, sometimes you don't. if you close the app then the ad will go away. (double tap home button and hold down the app till the minus sign comes up to close it)

    hope that helps

Not as big a hassle as yours but I ordered a TV off pixmania (UK) and it came with a Euro plug. Phoned to complain and they sent me an adapter.

Not a big deal but I was a bit miffed that they didnt advertise it as Eur plug. I'm a bit paranoid about having it plugged to an adapter all the time (not sure why!)

    1) Thees models had a problem with the neck, it would wear out and the display would be like a limp noodle. Kinda like the second pic they have there where it's touching the desk all the way down. Thats what they do over time and they don't want to stay up after that. Unless you replace the neck which is a HUGE expense.

Thanks for pointing this out. I asked the seller, so I'll just have to wait and see what s/he says. The neck does look strong, though, in my opinion, because it's holding up the screen in the first picture. Maybe the seller just put it down to show what it can do? I don't know.

Couldn't agree more. I don't see why you have to hate another network, is their competitor paying you off or what? If you like yours awesome, if you hate another wtf cares?

I think Verizon is great and has never let me down even when I have traveled into some pretty rural areas. I like to join in on the whole Verizon vs. AT&T battle just for fun. I can't believe people are so serious about it. Lighten up and use whatever works for you.

I love my PS2 and have in fact had it since the day they were released. With that said I would not use it as a dedicated DVD player especially if you burnt out a dedicated DVD player already due to high use. The PS2 is not known for it's durability. Mine has only lasted this long as once it started getting picky about the discs I played I quit using it to play DVDs and bought a dedicated DVD player. Also my PS2 sits in the top of the entertainment center and only gets moved to have the dust cleaned out of it.

The biggest drawback with your current machine is the 3GB memory. Lightroom is much happier with 4GB or more. I used to have a late 2006 MBP15 and LR was sluggish with 3GB.

I should think the faster CPU will have a much greater effect on performance than the GPU. GPU speed is really only relevant for games and video rendering.

I have a personal preference for matte displays. I used to own a black Santa Rosa Macbook and I was not happy with the display. It was largely useless unless you were in a location where you could control reflections and glare. The added screen real estate in the 15 is useful too, and I felt constrained by the resolution of the 13" display. I have traveled with my MBP15 to Asia a couple of times, and its size and weight are easily manageable on trips.

The "right" amount is a bit subjective. WinXP requires 1.5GB of space, but you'll also need room for additional hardware drivers, room for temporary space/virtual memory, and room for games. You'll need to consider how much space your games will need. On my 500GB HDD, I partitioned off 100GB. It's not nearly enough for all the games in my library, but it allows me to have several of them installed while running Win 7.

However, I don't think there's a right answer that anyone other than you can provide. Also, read the Bootcamp message and make sure it supports WinXP. I know the 2011 MBPs do not.

Is there an echo in here? :)

Good point about no official support for XP on current Macs--Win 7 only, if I'm not mistaken. Though, if you google around, it seems possible to get most things working. Would be a little easier, I think, on a desktop than a laptop.

    Happy computing.

You missed the real story -- in the release notes Apple explain that they're deprecating the Apple maintained version of Java:

Apple have provided a mechanism for installing 3rd party JDKs (in particular OpenJDK), but it likely won't work with current versions of Java IDEs (Netbeans, Eclipse etc) until they're updated to work with the new paths.

I wonder if this is anything to do with Oralce?
More importantly, is Java going to die on OS X? If OpenJDK or Soylatte don't pick it up then is all lost?

So is that definitely what i have? it says on some of the memory sites that somes G5s have four dimm slots and others 8. I'm pretty sure mine has 8, but want to verify. As I said before...

PowerMac G5 = DIMMs in PAIRS

4 DIMM or 8 DIMMs do not matter, all PowerMac G5s use memory in pairs -- due to dual channel memory.

Single channel is 1 DIMM installed at a time, the PowerMac G5 is NOT one of these machines. Therefore install 2 at a time.

Thanks for all the replies, Guess I just need to create a basic template with ssh access enabled and a dhcp pool to enable direct ssh access. I'll have to try cu now that I have my new mac. thanks for the tip Andrew

You can ONLY do a tethered jailbreak on 4.3 (or 4.3.1) currently.. as someone has stated here..

And only on iPad 1 NOT iPad 2, correct?

    Hi guys,

I have 2 old(ish) 24" Cinema Displays (the matte ones). Is it possible to use both of them with my (current) Mac Mini? I'm assuming I need some sort of HDMI splitter type of thing..

    Thanks for your help.

Just got htis yesterday :) Should be interesting to play - only had 10 minutes to try last night.

One thing that bothers me is that this game is rated for age as 3+ and one of the mentors is described as "Smart and Sexy" Am I being a bit too much of a prude here? I dunno.

lol just a lil ;) But how the hell could a 3 year old understand how to play the gane? It requires quite of bit of planning and thinking to avoid going bankrupt, especially if you put it in FULL mode where you gotta buy and sell stocks...

I'm going to be buying this iMac, with a HD and SSD together. However, am a bit confused on how the HD and SSD works together:

    1) Do they appear as one drive in the finder?
    2) If you download an app, then install it; will the downloaded *zip* (saved in "Downloads") be stored in the HD, and the app installed on the SSD (obviously saved in "Applications"), automatically?
